CUPOFJOE

Recycled clay, formed by hand

My first ever project, one exploring how the shape of a coffee mug can affect the coffee experience. Different shapes affect the aroma, temperature retention, and how the coffee contacts the palate. A wider rim allows more aroma to reach the nose, enhancing the flavor perception, while a narrower rim concentrates the aroma for a more intense experience. The depth and width of the cup can alter the cooling rate, with wider cups causing the coffee to cool faster, potentially dulling flavors. Additionally, the way the cup directs the coffee to specific areas of the tongue can emphasize certain taste notes, making the choice of cup shape an integral part of the coffee-drinking experience. This being said, I did not notice a single difference.
